Obituary


COLUMBIA Rose A. Hanko passed peacefully into the arms of our Lord on Sunday, March 29, 2015. Born in Pringle, Penn., she was the daughter of the late John and Frances Stegena Blannard.



She worked in the Registrar’s Office at the University of S.C. for 35 years. During that time, she enjoyed going to work and seeing her work family. She always had candy on her desk and toys for any children who might come into the office. She attended church at Ft. Jackson and enjoyed their social functions. She loved doing crossword...

COLUMBIA Rose A. Hanko passed peacefully into the arms of our Lord on Sunday, March 29, 2015. Born in Pringle, Penn., she was the daughter of the late John and Frances Stegena Blannard.



She worked in the Registrar’s Office at the University of S.C. for 35 years. During that time, she enjoyed going to work and seeing her work family. She always had candy on her desk and toys for any children who might come into the office. She attended church at Ft. Jackson and enjoyed their social functions. She loved doing crossword puzzles and was very patriotic.



She is survived by her loving daughter and son-in-law, Nancy Hanko and Vinny Hourigan and their fur kid, Stanley; brothers, Edward (Dorothy) of West Wyoming, Penn., Joseph (Judy) of East Stroudsburg, Penn., John (Emma) of Swoyersville, Penn.; a close nephew, Michael Shukis (Cindy) of Taylor, Penn.; and many friends. She was predeceased by her husband of 35 years, John E. Hanko; and sisters, Teresa Piazza, Frances Shukis and Geraldine Blannard.



The family wishes to thank Dr. Craig Maylath and the staff at Palmetto Senior Primary Care, Palmetto Health Hospice and the nurses of 11 E and the Murray Suites for caring for her with kindness and compassion.



A graveside service for Mrs. Hanko will be held at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, April 2, 2015, in Ft. Jackson National Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 3 until 6:00 p.m. Wednesday, April 1, 2015, at Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel.
